Will we let ourselves be ruled by computers? By: Francis P

We have grown to be too dependent of computers. Technology is evolving, we keep making devices smarter. Everywhere you go you can see computers. How many times have you seen a etcher argument with a student claiming "my computer didn't work". The question remains, are we too dependent on computers? In 2012, 7,017,846,922 people owned personal computers or electronic devices. To top that we use computers everyday and we expect them to work as good as new 24/7 and nowadays you can barely go somewhere computer free besides a forest.

Let's face it computers are part of our everyday lives, wether it is from Facebook to our cellphones to consoles we can't spend too long without them. In 2009, the average teenager spends 7.5 hours on their computer averaging to 31 hours per week, not that bad right? By 2015 we expect teenagers to average 15.5 hours a day or in other words 108.5 hours per week on their computers! Up to how much will be too much? This is one of the reasons I believe we are too dependant on computers.
Secondly, we expect computers to work 24/7 and have learnt that if you are having problems with them it is an excuse not to do our homework. Honestly how many times have you heard someone tell the teacher "I did it but my computer wasn't working" If you just said never you must be lying because it is now in the top ten excuses for incomplete homework. We do not take the time to see what we did wrong we automatically blame system malfunction. This proves we rely too much on computers.

Last of all, computers are very useful in everyday life but they create certain distractions like Facebook notifications. Nowadays computers are essential and are everywhere around us, you can't run away from them everywhere you go there is a cellphone, computer, or even a console. We have become so dependant. If we have a question for homework we don't ask peers or parents we call for the help of google or Wikipedia. We don't even try to understand the question. This proves we are very dependent even too dependent on electronics.

In conclusion, society has become too dependent on computers, we rely on them, we use them constantly and they are everywhere we go. It is time we become less dependent on computers lets not raise a generation where future AI's will be smarter than the human ppopulation.
