Homework: A Useless Piece Of Work! By:Olivier Cloutier

Imagine going outside after school having fun without worrying about homework, wouldn't that be fun? Many years of research has been done to figure out if homework helps students learn. What a waste of time! Homework does not help students learn, it stresses kids out and makes them bored after school. Why should they suffer the consequences of writing on a useless piece of paper?

Firstly, many students around the world are stressed after school because they know they have way too much homework and they know that they will never be able to finish it on time. In fact 56 percent of students consider homework as a primary stressor, and less than 1 percent of the students said that homework was not a stressor. A good quantity of homework has been adopted in Finland. Schoolchildren were given just 30 minutes  per night to spend on homework and none on at weekends. So the students were stress free and scored highly in their grades.

Lastly, homework does not let students have fun after school. Students have way too much homework, they can't do anything else! All they do when they come home is do their homework, take their showers and then go to sleep. That's not how students should live their lives. Teachers need to understand that students have other things to do at home, such as: church, activities, sports, jobs, family things, etc... How are students supposed to live creative and social lives when they have to do hours and hours of homework everyday. Don't you think they do enough at school?

In conclusion, homework is useless! Students have been doing homework all their lives can't you teachers give them a break? Homework stresses students and it does not let students have fun after school. By 1960, a reviewer tracked down 17 experimental studies, most of which suggested that homework made no difference at all. So teachers, why are you giving students homework, don't you see it is useless?

Life Block by Florence M-C

Teachers all around the world are giving work loads of homework this is ruining teens/children's lives. In the whole world 43% of parents have admitted to doing their child's homework. Homework should be banded because homework has ruined kids creativity and a wast of time.

Kids and teens get so stressed on homework that they start to put pressure on themselves to finish it. This causes kids/teens to be under TOO MUCH pressure and stops them from being creative and living their lives. They can't see the beauty in the world because all they see is homework. They don't have time to just be children anymore. My cousin who is 8 years old has already started hating school and homework because his teacher gives him up to 2 hours of homework everyday. This doesn't give him much time to be creative or go play outside. He doesn't get the opportunity to make childhood memories that make life so fun.

Getting 100% on a test can make you feel great but it also can take away all the fun in life. Kids/teens do enough work at school, they don't need more. Teens/kids are in school working hard 8 hours a day. But teachers are still giving them more work to do at home. Adults tell us to do homework so we can be more civilized and intelligent citizens of the world. But they don't see that our homework is useless because all kids/teens want to do live a real life while they still can. The homework teachers give kids is just pages of busy work it isn't going to help them very much in society. Homework isn't really teaching us anything.

To conclude, my opinion is that homework is making kids/teens see the world as a bad place while they are still young. Taking away all their creativity. Teachers think that they are making us smarter but maybe they should change their way of doing things because they are giving us TOO MUCH work. Adults don't see that their is more to the world than just work.

Think Before Telling The Truth By: Tristan.S

"Lying is just a beautiful thing that is ruined by the truth" ( Neil-Patrick Harrison ). Lying is considered a bad thing. I don't think lying is a bad thing. "A little white lie" meaning should we be able to lie without being judge. In many ways people should be able to lie. To protect someone, to stay out of trouble or just to avoid being hurting someone.

First of all, even if it's a friend, family a boy or a girlfriend you have to admit, sometimes you lie. Let's say your girlfriend just bought a new shirt. You think it's too short or too tight. You wouldn't tell her because you're scared that she's going to react badly. You're trying to protect her from being sad or protect yourself from being in trouble. It is okay to lie to protect someone.

Second of all, in school you are taught to tell the truth when you did something wrong. They said you would be in less trouble. But for example if you failed an exam and you don't want your parents to ground you, well you'll lie to stay out of trouble. If someone is trying to get you in trouble you will naturally lie because telling the truth will get you in less trouble but lying will get you in no trouble at all.

If someone might get physically or mentally hurt by something, you will lie. For example, if little George cheated on little katy he would lie to her about so she wouldn't get hurt emotionaly, She may find out but the right thing to do is to break up first. She would be less hurt if she learns when shes over him. P.S: im not promoting cheating.

In conclusion, lying is considered a bad thing. Yes, it does hurt when people find out but it could protect someone from pain, help you stay out of trouble and could avoid  hurting someone. So next time, think before telling the truth.

Is Homework Worth It? By Thomas Canning

In most, if not all schools, students are assigned homework. And you probably already know that the students don't like homework. Question is, is it actually worth it? In my opinion, I think that homework can be useless. Especially after a 6 hour school day. Teachers. Imagine this: you get home from school, the most horrid school day in a while. You're tired. You're exhausted. And you just want to go to bed. But you can't. You have hours of work to do. That's how students feel.

According to UVAToday, studies show that homework has little or no effect, but can also help to standardize grades. In my opinion, homework is a pain in the butt. But I also think that it can help us to memorize important elements that could show up in an exam or test. More statistics show that only 50% of parents think that homework is worthwhile. It might seem like a lot, but that means that the other half disagree with homework being worthwhile.

How ever, I do think that bringing technology to homework can make it more interesting for the student to work on. Take our school for an example. In the past three years that I've been here, we've been using more and more technology in our classes. Our school has done a very good job to introduce technology to students with online programs to remind them about upcoming events or homework to hand in.

In conclusion, I think homework isn't really useful unless studying for an upcoming test or exam. Although I think that homework can sometimes be useless, I think there's a way for teachers to make it interesting. They just need to figure it out.
