This year our class will be working a lot with iPads. Each term students will post some of their written work - reflections, short stories, poems, critiques! We hope that you will follow-us this year!

Chicago vs Bruins by Gabriel Pearson
I think it's important that people cheer for their town and their team because we need support and I think it was really fun what they did. I really liked that most of the Chicago people came to this event and it was fun to see how people like their teams and sport.
Colour Clash by Andy LeBrun
Colour Clash is St.Patricks High school way to communicate with other people. It is a nice way to do activities with others. At colour clash day, there are many activities to do inside and outside to compete against other teams. At the end of the day there are judges that will decide which team will win. But by deciding which team will win, you have to win activities and scream for your team to have spirit points. Colour Clash is one of the days of school you can not miss. It is fun, it is a nice way to spend the day inside and outside and I guarantee that colour clash is amazing!!

Junior Team Jamboree By: David Tweddell
Last year, I played football. I was practicing with the junior football team to play in the jamboree. Practice was fun, I played as well as I could and had the most fun I ever had playing football. My position was strong side linebacker which means I play the part of the field that there is the longest part of the field. On the day of the jamboree, I did the warm up with the rest of the team, the time to play the games had arrived, I was very pumped. Unfortunately not even ten minutes of the first game had passed, I was knocked to the ground. No luck, My helmet flew off with the grid halfway broken down. Running back to the bench, I was told I had a concussion. Sometimes, I still wonder what happened during that game I don't remember it all even after six months have gone by. It ruined my summer, I love football but its really sad when just one hit can change all your year to come after. It takes one hit only and you are weak for 1 week to 1 year to all the rest of your life. Sometimes, it's better to play another sport where the biggest danger is not permanent for your body and mind.
Gaming by: Francis Plamondon
Gaming, it has been around since the very first consoles came out, consoles like the NES or the Game Boy. Many people have been arguing if gaming is a good or bad thing ever since they came out, I hope this will help you on your opinion of gaming. Therapists have been using video games to cure patients since the 1980's. According to a brain research, video games, particularly first person shooters, may help to improve; your vision, improve your attention skills and your memory. Although gaming has a positive impact over someone since it can improve your skills and reflexes but being exposed too long to these games can have very negative impacts on a person ex: growing violent or non attentive etc..
Shooting
Shooting is one of the things I like the most doing during my free time. I started shooting last year in the cadets and I have been shooting almost every weekend since then. Last year, I entered a shooting competition with my team and we were against approximately 50 other teams. Even though my team and I had not been shooting alt together, we were able to win the bronze medal and that was one of my proudest moments. I will also be entering another competition this year and I hope that we will win again. Usually, my sister and I shoot for the fun of it at home, but now she wants to be in my team and I hope she makes it. This year, my sister and I asked our parents if they could buy us a daisy each for Christmas and I hope we do get it.

Canada Winning the Gold Medal Jacob Simard
I still remember the amount of stress that I had that day. It was one of the most intense hockey game I'd ever seen in my life. I was with my whole family in the living room, we were all attentively watching the game. It was Canada against U.S.A. Fortunately Canada won in over time when Crosby scored the U.S goaltender between the legs. I still get the feeling that I had when watching this game. It is an undiscribable feeling that I have when ever I watch it. I was so stressed out at some parts during the game I couldn't watch it. I think that even if you were not taking for Canada you would still of liked this game as much as I did. This is why I this is my most memorable event in the hockey history.
Sports by Jennifer
My favorite moment of sports is the Olympics, seeing my favorite athletes on TV competing with other countries. I find it, its a good way to reminding us about sports. In some ways sports sometimes bring us together by example being in a hockey team. I never new that Joannie Rochette my favorite athlete would win a medal at the Olympics . It surprised me and I was happy. Joannie Rochette after I new that she won a bronze medal, she is the one who had me skating again. Just seeing her on the podium, on TV made me think that should never give up on what I accomplish.
Horse back riding passion by Charlie Duquet
Football, soccer, tennis are fun sports. Horse back riding too. Some people think horse back riding isn't a sport, actually it is. Sure if you've been riding a horse that has done only walking rides, you won't have that much fun. Have you ever been going faster then walking with a horse, it's awesome but hard! When we say that horse back riding is a sport, it depends what you do. I do barrel racing which asks a lot of things. Yes I know, you might think that barrel racing is a silly sport where you run around in circles... To be a barrel racer it takes agility, trust, strength, control, skills, determination, teamwork, and many other. Horses and barrel racing are my passion. I'm gently starting to do some jumping with my horse because I realized one month ago that my horse loves to jump. I guess I will learn new things about my horse day per day.
Mexico
From October 13th to the 20th I went to Mexico. My family and I were in the hotel called Coba in Rivera Maya. It was part of a three hotel complex with Tulum and Akumal. They were all beautiful hotels with each a buffet and fancy restaurants in them. We did many activities like watching a dolphin show, scuba diving, watching music shows, swimming and much more. All the staff in the Coba hotel were all so kind and greeted people on vacation all the time. The weather in Mexico was perfect everyday, it was over 30 degrees all the time. The plane ride was long but I knew that it was worth it! Overall, I spent a wonderful vacation and I would go back any day.

Color Clash by Shayna
Color Clash is a event that happens once a year, every year at St.Patrick's high school. This event allows people to have great time and also allows new comers to make friends. I believe Color Clash is an event everybody appreciates in their own way. Many people do not understand this event, they think of it as just another boring day but the truth is, if you participate you will have great fun. My favourite activity or event at Color Clash is Irish idol. Irish idol is an activity made with all Color Clash teams. In Irish idol student council play a song and they stop it, from there your team must continue singing without the music and the group with the most points wins. There are many other similar activities at Color Clash. If you have not really appreciated it before it might be because you aren't participating or being enthusiastic about it. Color Clash is a day without any classes, only games, but if you want it to be boring it will be. In big do not prejudge this activity without ever going, you've got a chance to have fun don't waste it.
Dance By Aurélie V.
Dance is a sport, as many people may know dancing is not that easy. When dancer's dance as a group it's way harder then being alone. In a group we have to be all at the same time, if someone is ahead or behind of a second everyone will see it even if it's only a second. When someone dance alone on a stage and make a mistake only her and her coach will know if that dancer does not let it show. As a group mistakes are easier to see that's why practicing is really important. When dancers are in a competition and someone makes a mistake, we cannot be mad at that person because we are a group and we have to support each other and be close to each other people group spirit is really important to accomplish something. Many people think dance is easy but it's not that simple, a dance group need a team spirit, it also need coordination and synchronization. A dancer need a passion for dance, dance is a way to express feelings and thought passing it through arts. Dance is not a easy sport.

Gaming can be a sport and could be a hobby: by Mathieu Daessle
Sure gaming is lots of fun and great for rainy days, but most parents seem to say that video games and T.V is just a device to rotten the young people's brain.. Well these parents are wrong, gaming can be good for you once in a while , but too much of it can affect a person badly, but playing from time to time can't hurt a person. Gaming can actually improve your skills, depending what you play. There are many different kinds of games, some focus on the Brain, more know as brain games, and there's other games where they practice your reflexes, or some part of your body, your fingers for example. Video games aren't just about sitting down and not moving all day, there are some consoles that can get u moving virtually, the wii for example, most of the Wii games get you moving, so now you know that video games aren't just bad but can also be good, but if video games are not played properly, u could injure your self, and too much video games isn't good for your health, so play responsibly.
Parents think that gaming gets you now where in life, but you can actually make money from playing a video game. There are gaming tournaments, and so the winner or the winning team receives money for winning the whole tournament, and a nice big trophies to declare that they are the best of best. So when you say gaming gets you no where in life, think twice cause gaming can get you some where in life, at a young age, usually 18 years of age.
"Gaming" good, bad or educational by Nicolas Marek
Gaming, it is a verb that represents playing any type of video games. Video games are something parents are trying to stop kids of playing then because of their violence and also because they Encourage a bad health for people who play too much of them. The only problem with some of these accusations is that not every person that plays video games is stupid, fat or violent. You do not need to be only playing video games, you can do sports study and not obliged to be violent. Video games can be very bad if the person plays alone, all day and does no sports whatsoever. If parents really have a problem with video games then they should refer to the ESRB rating for video games, this rating gives what age group should be playing what game, plus most video game consoles and computers have parental control so that you can modify what you're children are allowed to play and how long they can play. Playing video games isn't that bad if it is regulated, or else it can be a problem make sure you have control.

"42" by Jillian N
42 is a movie about Jackie Robinson, the first ever colored baseball player. It goes in depth about his struggles and how he delt with the rascism and discriminative behavior he has to endure from his team mates, competition teams, and even the crowd. What is discrimination? Discrimination is picking on or making fun of someone because they are different. It is not allowing them to do certain things or go certain places. Discrimination and rascism aren't as common today as they were many years ago. Of course rascism still exists we just don't see it as much. The most common form of discrimination is towards colored people. It exists with every other race as well. How would they have felt to be discriminated against? Well discrimination would be very hurtful, it would cause their lives to be a lot harder, having to deal with people not accepting you, everywhere you go. Insight of my reading and viewing, I can see just how much Jackie wanted to give up, but at the same time he knew he couldn't because he loved baseball, it was his passion and nothing was going to stop him from playing. He was strong and never stooped to the others levels. He knew things would get better so he just kept moving forward and yes rascism and discrimination still exist everywhere but if more people take a stand and fight against it maybe it could eventually be a thing if the past.
Sports by Tristan.S
My favorite sports moment was in the hockey season 2009-2010 when the Montreal Canadiens were in 8th place and barely could make the series. This year the Montreal Canadiens brought a goalie from the Hamilton Bulldogs named Jaroslav Halak, he played a few good match in the regular seasons and was starting goalie when the serie came because Carey Price the usual starting goalie wasn't having a great season. So the Canadiens were having a though season and even worst the first team they would get was the best team of the league The Pittsburg Penguins. The Canadiens won the first game but after that game they lost the 3 other games. That's when it started the biggest sport moment in my life the Canadiens would put Halak in the goals and every game he would receive 40-50 shots and all of them were stops, they tied the penguins 3-3 and I remember how that night my mom would let me stay up to watch the game and how my dad was working it was 3-2 for Montreal with 11 seconds left to the 3rd period and I just knew that my father was watching that historical moment, Halak was fired with shots, 3,2,1 EINNNN it was over the Montreal Canadiens the team that wasn't even suppose to make the series just won against the best team in the league that night I woke up my 5 years old brother to tell him that his team just lost against mine I called my father screaming that the Canadiens won and he could just not believe it. As the series continue the Canadiens won against the second best team which in that time was the Washington Capitals and it was only in the Demi-finals that the Montreal Canadiens lost against the Flyers. I will always remember the great night the Canadiens did the impossible of winning against the Pittsgburg Penguins.
Free write: Horseback riding by Laurie Rheaume
Yes! Horseback riding is a sport! I have met so many people telling me it isn't, saying you just sit on a horse and it does all the work. Well that's not true! A good rider needs strength to control a horse, to bring it on the tracks, stop him when he's too fast. A good equestrian needs balance, being over 5 feet in the air on a moving animal that can bolt whenever he wishes is not as easy as it seems, you need to stay in the saddle however fast, bumpy, slow or anxious your horse is. A rider not only needs physical strength but also needs a good emotional balance. If ever you get bucked off you have to learn how to fight your fears and and get back on. You have to be calm and patient to be a good and confident rider. Horseback riding isn't only a sport it's a therapy. You have to learn to control, love, be patient and learn with a fifteen hundred pound animal.

My favorite band is disturbed. They are an amazing band and heavy metal is some awesome music! The main singer is David Draiman there is Dan Donegan, Mike Wengren and Steve Kmak.

Is gaming worthwhile?
A lot of people wonder if gaming is worthwhile. A lot of people think that gaming is all about playing games and eating chips and pigging out! We'll it isn't. Gaming is more like a sport than a hobby. Depending on what game you play, it trains your mind and enhances your reflexes. With the new motion detecting technology, consoles can now track your movement without you needing a controller. So if ever it's raining, you can exercise by playing sports with your console. Another reason why gaming is worthwhile is that it's entertaining. In the virtual world, you can be anything or anyone. Some games challenge your mind with puzzles and clues, while other games train your reflexes, where it can help you with your real life reaction time. Whatever the game you play, I think it is worthwhile to play.

The Miley Cyrus controversy. By: Kaitlin Power
Many people see Miley Cyrus as a train wreck, or should I say... A wrecking ball. Many people say that it was drugs that did this, maybe it was, but I truly believe that she is just trying to find her true self. Just 1 year ago, this was Miley. Doing what she truly should be doing, COUNTRY MUSIC!
Miley Cyrus just wanted to stand out, she did not want to be a typical pop star failure that people would forget In 10 years. I respect this, but sometimes, I believe that she goes too far. This may be "show biz" but it is definately not appropriate or attractive to the eye. Miley Cyrus debuted her career as Hanna Montana, on the hit T.V show. Immediately, the public loved her. Her audience was 5-12year old girls. Now lets look at her now, going back and forth on a wrecking ball naked. Yes, she is allowed to grow up and change, but that change happened just too quickly. Her audience that was 5-12 are now 15-16 years old, so they still watch her. Miley isn't setting a great examples for young girls and the parents don't quite appreciate that.
So Miley Cyrus... A person struggling to find herself or a wreck?
Eminem - By Samantha Dion
Eminen, also known as Slim Shady and Marshall Matters, is an artiste I admire a lot because every song he writes talks about his feelings. He wants to prove that he changed. Reading his biography about his youth and how he didn't fit in and hoped too change it made me realize how someone's life can change drastically by doing something you love. He was discriminated all his life for not being a person with darker colour of skin but he kept on going. He proved to people that he could rap and every song he makes is not like another song, it's all his thoughts feeling and experiences put into one song, even if sometimes it is put into and weird concept there is usually meaning behind it. He inspire me a lot growing up, he came from nothing and ended up with much more, and what was surprising is that money didn't change him at all. He respects people more than ever. Most adults or kids think his music is nothing and "stupid" because they only hear the swear words, but they don't get that they are part of his frustration and feelings, this is who he is.

Sports in Our Society - Posted By: Christian T.
Sports, a subject we see or hear about everyday. At first it seems pretty normal, but nobody talks about the power of sports. Sports which are usually played in teams have a certain aspect of togetherness unlike anything else in the world. Though it is not just the actual players or teams but also the fans. Think about it, how often do you get excited to meet a fan that is cheering for the same team as you (except if you're a Jets fan, then you might have trouble finding people)! As a person who has played sports his entire life, I have seen how sports bring people together. For example, here in Quebec, we have an entire chain of restauraunts based on Canadian sports fans (Cage Aux Sports). So grab a root beer, find some friends, find a tv and enjoy the wonder that is sports.
Why hockey isn't the Sport for me Michael Cantin
Hockey is greatly loved in Miss Murdock's class. We like to make jokes about the Winnipeg Jets or the Montreal Canadians.Although we makes the jokes I don't love hockey like some people in this class. I don't hate hockey. There are lots of thing that are fun like going with your family or friends or that drunk guy in the stand who makes funny jokes and gets over happy or sad at the game. I just wouldn't go watch a game alone or go play at the park with out a friend telling me to go. It is still fun to see miss Murdock do push ups when the jets lose.
Music:Metallica:by Joshua Royer
In my opinion the best heavy metal band is Metallica. I like their music because it is heavy and it's nice to listen to, but not only that. Some of the songs have a lot of meaning. For example the song Nothing Else Matters. Nothing Else Matters tells that nothing really matters. It's figurative, school does matter, jobs matter ect. In truth it really means mind your own business. In the song they often repeat: it doesn't matter what they do... doesn't matter what they know. Here is the song http://youtu.be/UbREpm19muI .There are many other songs like this one, but there are also songs that I just don't get the meaning and they're just good to listen to. That's why I like Metallica.
Colour clash: Josh Jacques- Alain
When I was in secondary 1, I was wandering what was colour clash because my sister told me that its an activity day but the activities was not really fun. When colour clash I had a lot of fun because their was many teams and their was many activities that was fun but others was less fun. For me each year in secondary is colour clash becomes less fun because its always the same activities.
Free Write: My Life By: Camille Tremblay
My life isn't simple like people think! Yes I have good news. One of them is that my best friend is now my step sister because my dad is going out with her mom. We are always together, we have a lot of fun. One thing I dislike is now that Claude is my step mom she can talk to me more seriously; before she was shy to tell me things. Now let's talk about some very bad news! One of my close oncle died not even a month ago, he had cancer all over him. He lived like that for a year and after a year he was ready to die.. He never abandoned when he had the chance to do something he did it. His cancer started in his eye and finished in his brain. I'm happy of how far he went with cancer. He is better where he is now. An angel joined heaven! Now my last event that disappoint me the most is my grandpa has lung cancer. His lungs together have 30% of oxygen it's not a lot. Since I'm young we are together and now poof I don't see him a lot like before. For now we are wishing him luck, we pray for him to get better with his treatment. I know he is able, he will be a cancer surviver! Even if I have those very bad news I'm still smiling and trying to not think about the future but of the present.
